Whatever you call them, floods bring feelings of emotional distress, depression, stress, worries, among other feelings. Technically, a flood is an overflow of water that submerges land that is usually dry. Since these floods cause a lot of trouble in a man’s life, a study of floods, which is hydrology, has been going on having its significance in the following areas: agriculture, civil engineering, and public health.
As a man does his activities in the environment, there have been increases in the levels and frequency of flooding, especially in the urban areas. Though, the rural areas are not excluded from flood occurrences. Moreover, these activities of man increase the flooding:
- deforestation and removal of wetlands,
- changes in waterway course or flood controls,

The risks of flooding may even escalate after its occurrence if one does not know what to do to clean it up.

So here are the superstar steps to cleaning up after the flood:
A. House cleanup
Superstar starts with the inside out. That would be the inner rooms of your house. Prepare yourself by doing the following initial steps:
- FIRST, TURN OFF the electricity supply by switching off the main power switch box.
- SECOND, WEAR proper attire. What is proper? Boots, gloves, cleaning up clothes, a face mask, and an eye protector to shield you from any danger of splashing flood water or dirt on your face.
- THIRD, OPEN all windows to let the sunlight flood in and let out all unwanted smells. One important note is to clean up in the morning. The sun’s light and rays are a great help in the cleanup process.
- NEXT, REMOVE remaining floodwater in any containers inside your rooms. Ensure that the containers are cleaned up after emptying them with floodwater.
- REMOVE ALSO all the furniture or the equipment that are wet and have been flooded. It is best to place them in your garden or in front of your house.
- COLLECT all the dirt that you can place in a trash can or bag. Throw everything that has been flooded except those things that can still be restored! Superstar will help you with that!
- THEN, start wetting the walls with a hose or a water spray and use a scrub to remove the dirt that is stuck on the wall. Do this starting from the upper part to the lower part of the wall section by section until you cover the whole wall that was flooded. Then make one more splashing of clean water mixed with disinfectant.
- NEXT is to clean the floor with a scrub and plain water. Again, like the wall, use clean water mixed with disinfectant. Then use a quick water absorption sponge to dry it up.
- FINALLY, CHECK the entire wall and the floor for any remaining dirt. Make a quick brush-up or use a sponge to eliminate it. Take a deep breath, you know if you did a thorough cleanup when you smell fresh and clean air!
B. Front or Backyard cleanup
Since you have taken out all the furniture, equipment, and other things that have been flooded, it is best to start cleaning them up. Begin with the small and easy dry objects and follow them up with the big ones. You should have a basin or a big container to place all these small things to dry up under the sun. Finally, clean up the front or the backyard with a hose to drive all the remaining dirty water out of your yard!
C. Community cleanup
It would not be good to just leave the dirty water out of your yard and let it stay on the sidewalk or on the road. You need to coordinate with the local cleanup or disaster team to help you do it.
